Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority chooses Plasco Energy Group

OTTAWA – February 2, 2011 – Plasco Energy Group Inc. (Plasco) today announced that the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA), of California, selected Plasco’s waste conversion technology to be the focus of the required environmental review through the California Environmental Quality Act.

“We’re delighted that the Authority chose Plasco as a partner for this project. We look forward to introducing Plasco’s conversion technology, and the economic development that will come with it to the Salinas Valley,” stated Alisdair McLean, VP Strategic Initiatives of Plasco.

The Waste Authority will be the Lead Agency to undertake an environmental impact study, which will include a public outreach process to give the community an opportunity to review and understand the Plasco solution and technology. Once this process is concluded, the goal is to build and operate a waste conversion facility that will convert approximately 100,000 tons of the Authority’s waste into green power and other useful products.

In 2005, the SVSWA Board of Directors adopted goals of 75% diversion and 50+ years of recovery and disposal capacity for Authority landfills. The Conversion Technology Commission (CTC) was formed on March 15, 2007 to investigate viable non-combustion technologies and focus on selecting a company that will be responsible for environmental analysis, financing, designing, permitting, constructing and operating a waste conversion facility.

Plasco was ranked first by the CTC on August 13, 2009 after an 18-month evaluation process that began with nine conversion technology suppliers. The evaluation process included review of detailed information on the technical, environmental and financial aspects of the projects.

On January 20, 2011, following further evaluation and discussions, the Board of Directors of the Waste Authority voted to proceed with an environmental impact study of Plasco’s technology to convert garbage otherwise destined for landfill into green energy.
