We turn garbage into electricity — how is our process unique?

The Project

With a capacity of 5 tonnes per day, this research and development centre is a scale model of the full system deployed at Plasco Trail Road, in Ottawa.

Castellgali Spain – Research and Development Centre

Since 2003, Plasco has operated its pilot plant in Castellgali, Spain in conjunction with its Spanish joint-venture partner; HERA Holding SL. HERA is one of the largest waste managers in Spain and provides substantial waste management knowledge and environmental expertise.

With a capacity of 5 tonnes per day, this plant is a scale model of the full system deployed at the Plasco Energy Group Ottawa facility. It is a research and development centre where process improvements and refinements are tested before they are deployed in commercial systems.

Between 2004 and 2007, the pilot plant was used almost exclusively to refine the design and operational parameters for Plasco’s commercial scale facility in Ottawa, Canada. This development work included refining simulation and flow models, control algorithms and operational practices, and optimizing the design of the process equipment. More recently, work at Castelgalli has focused on processing alternative feed stocks.
